- The section that talks about how everyone is not who they say they are is golden.
- It pairs a real life situation with a street smart rule. Overall, highly recommend as a tool
- Great bite size lessons. Teaching kids to be aware of their surroundings and watch out for themselves

I like the breakdown of each lesson. The author starts with a real life moment, then gives their opinion on it, offers a street smart rule, and then asks the reader if they have ever encountered that situation before. A lot of the street smart rules is even good advice for adults, in my opinion. This book would probably go over better if reading it with an adult. Kids nowadays don't have the attention span to read books, which is sad, because this would be a good read for a kid between the ages of 10 and 13.
This book is so important! With everything going on in the world, its so important to instill in our children how to read people! The section that talks about how everyone is not who they say they are is golden.
Very interesting book, my boy liked it.
Had my son read this book with me. The examples and street smart rule are easy to understand for kids. He enjoyed this book and learn a few things along the way. Would recommend for parents to read with their kids.
It is not what I expected
Haven’t read it all yet but it is a good book. Carries good context for kids to learn. I would say it is about an average size.
This is a great resource for parents to teach their kids but also for adults to teach themselves. It’s geared to young people but the lessons you can learn from this book is universal. We loved that it pairs a real life situation with a street smart rule. It also has a mini discussion question at the end to think a bit more about the lesson. Overall I’d recommend this but definitely give it a read before going through it with your child. There may be a few lessons you want to stress or share a few personal stories on. Expect lots of questions in return! Overall, highly recommend as a tool but definitely make sure to put your own spin on it
This book offers a great collection of practical, real-life lessons for kids, and I really appreciate how the content is broken down into small, bite-sized pieces that are easy to understand and not overloaded with explanation. That makes it very approachable, especially for younger readers. Some standout lessons include ideas like “Most People Miss What’s Right in Front of Them,” which teaches awareness, and “Not Everything Is as It First Appears,” which encourages kids to think twice before making decisions . These kinds of lessons are simple but meaningful and can spark good conversations. That said, I do think the book would be even better if the scenarios were expanded into more story-like situations rather than quick examples, it would make them more engaging and memorable. Also, the lack of illustrations makes the pages feel a bit plain at times, which might make it less exciting for some kids. Overall, the lessons themselves are strong and valuable, and I really like the concepts being taught. With a bit more storytelling and visual appeal, this could easily be a 5-star book.
I love the idea of the book. Teaching kids to be aware of their surroundings and how to watch out for themselves. Kids and adults need to be more aware of both. This book splits the lesson into small bite size chunks. Each lesson is half a page. It has a real life situation, street smart rule, and mini-talk. The lessons are written in kid friendly language. It’s split up into 6 parts: see what others miss, people are not always what they seem, don’t follow the crowd, think before you act, stay safe in a world that isn’t always safe, and practical life issues. I’m a teacher and I see how this book could be useful in the classroom. Part 3 ‘Don’t follow the crowd’ and part 5 ‘Stay safe in a world that isn’t always safe’ has great lessons that can be incorporated anywhere with kids. Overall great lessons for kids and for anyone to use who works with kids.
This street smart guide includes a lot of great lessons and real-life situations for children. Each scenario is short and relatable for children. I rated only 4 stars because I found many of the examples to be too short. I think adding a little more detail to the situation would have allowed a child to understand why that particular lesson is being taught. I think this is a great resource for parents to use to start conversations and build on the content in the book a bit more. There were several situations that we don't encounter regularly, but were important for my child to think about ahead of time. Many of the situations were great for teaching kids how to treat others even when opinions or preferences differ. Overall, I'd recommend this book to any parent who wants to teach their child the right way to act towards others, but I'd encourage them to expand upon each scenario a little more.
I like that there are "mini talks "throught the book . Questions you can ask your child that coincide with the lessons and examples . Leading to deeper conversations and learning more about your child's days , and what they go through when you're not around them. Life can be hard and confusing for some kids making it a little harder to navigate and understand others. Maybe they don't notice social ques or pick up on the vibes around them. This book is helpful for situations like this and could help them become more confident .
Powerful lessons that don't tell children what to do, but how to pay attention and have situational awareness. We often try to protect our children from everything, but that doesn't prepare them for real life. This book has tons of examples that will open their thinking.
This book is a great tool for teaching children lessons that will help them make better choices. I love the idea of including a mini-talk, as it allows kids to learn easily and engagingly. The mini-talk also helps us explain the main purpose of the lesson clearly
The Ultimate Guide to Raising Children Street-Smart by Gabriel Nedelcu offers practical, real-life scenarios that help kids learn how to think, make decisions, and handle everyday situations with more awareness. The book focuses on building confidence, critical thinking, and “real-world” judgment through relatable examples kids might actually face. I like the "mini talk" at the end of each lessons. It gives insights on how or what my child is thinking.
Get scenarios and lots of opportunity to have some discussions. Really think that some of this will come in handy
Raising kids is hard. This is an interesting book about how to raise kids with common sense along with the intellectual knowledge.
The Ultimate Guide to Raising Children Street-Smart is a practical and engaging resource for parents who want to help their kids develop awareness, confidence, and better decision-making skills in everyday situations. The book stands out by focusing on realistic, day-to-day scenarios rather than extreme or fear-based situations, which makes its lessons feel relevant and immediately useful. The format of short, real-life examples works especially well. It allows children (and parents) to easily digest important concepts like trusting instincts, recognizing manipulation, and thinking before acting. Many of the scenarios feel relatable and spark meaningful conversations, making this a great tool for families to work through together.Another strength is the emphasis on building confidence and awareness without being overly alarmist. Instead of scaring kids, the book encourages them to stay observant, think critically, and trust their judgment—skills that are valuable well beyond childhood. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the sheer number of lessons can feel a bit repetitive at times, and some sections could benefit from deeper explanation or guidance for parents on how to reinforce the ideas. A bit more structure or progression between lessons would also improve the overall flow.Overall, this is a helpful, accessible guide for raising more aware and thoughtful kids—especially in a world where everyday situations can be more complex than they seem.
I got this book for my nephew because I know the kid is already smart.. maybe even street-smart but the way this book puts it together.. I felt it provided more depth to everything a young mind can and is probably absorbing all the time! As a kid, i know i wasn't very street smart (And prob am not even today) but i know some cousins who were, and it felt it was easier for them to go around and manage chores independently in their neighborhood, versus someone like me, who was slightly introverted and would take alot of time and courage to do the same task... I don't know if reading a book like this would have saved me alot of time, but these are some resources that may come in handy... and when we have it, why not try it!
A good book to teach kids about street smarts. Told in a easy to understand way and can help kids to learn these things that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
The intent of this book is questionable. Many aspects of what is presented has a positive value. But to say 201 powerful lesson is not valid. This book contains good guidline to follow. I would say it has 30 to 40 acual lessons that would be better suted to conreate stories rather than refrased aspects to a basic premise to follow. In conclution this book has a posability of reaching a teen mind through repition of lessons to allow a young mind to say " I understand" these are common sense base ideas that honestly may not be common any more.
